How to Use the Volume Calculator

  1. Select a shape (cube, cylinder, cone, sphere, or pipe).
  2. Enter the dimensions (diameter, height, etc.).
  3. Choose your measurement unit (inch, feet, yard, cm, or meter).
  4. Click “Calculate volume” to see results in multiple units.

This tool automatically converts between imperial and metric units — no manual math needed.

Volume Formulas for Common Shapes

Cube

Formula: V = a3

where a = side length

Rectangular Block

Formula: V = l × w × h

(length × width × height)

Cylinder

Formula: V = π r2 h

where r = radius, h = height

Cone

Formula: V = 13 π r2 h

Sphere

Formula: V = 43 π r3

Hollow Cylinder (Pipe)

Formula: V = π h ( R2 − r2 )

where R = outer radius, r = inner radius

Example Calculations

Example 1 – Volume of a Cone

If a cone has a base diameter of 10 inches and a height of 12 inches:

Formula: V = 13 × π × (5)2 × 12

Calculation: V ≈ 314.16 in3

That’s about 5.15 liters.

Example 2 – Volume of a Sphere

A sphere with a 20 cm diameter:

Formula: V = 43 × π × 103

Calculation: V ≈ 4188.79 cm3 ≈ 4.19 L

FAQ – Volume Calculator

Q: How do I find the volume of a cylinder?
Use the formula V = π r2 h. Enter the diameter and height — the calculator does the rest.

Q: Can I calculate volume in gallons or liters?
Yes. The results show liters, m³, US gallons, and UK gallons automatically.

Q: What’s the difference between US and UK gallons?
1 US gallon = 3.785 liters
1 UK gallon = 4.546 liters

Q: Does this calculator work for both metric and imperial?
Absolutely — you can enter values in inches, feet, yards, centimeters, or meters, and get results in both systems.
